My client, a global market leader in the engineering, manufacture and supply of their products are currently seeking a Materials/Mechanical Engineer to service a Design & Development Programme to develop existing solutions and identify new opportunities.
To inform the Company in the use and applications of polymers with particular reference to sealants, adhesives, coatings and mouldings.
To keep up to date in latest developments in high strength steel and aluminium and their application to tanks and silos.
To manage test procedures, maintain test records, design and commission test equipment for in-house Research & Development.
To maintain a thorough technical knowledge of all existing standard products and structures.
To participate actively in maintaining Company, National, European, American and International standards to promote the Company’s competitiveness.
To liaise with suppliers and advise on the best use of existing products and the potential for new product utilisation to benefit the Company. Opportunity:

Ideally a Mechanical Engineer, Materials Scientist or Metallurgist at degree level/HND or equivalent. Experience of low carbon steels, thermoplastics and thermosetting polymers is required. Additional education or training in CAD or FEA would be desirable.
Candidates will be able to show evidence of the following experience, skills and attributes:
Thorough knowledge of materials engineering principles.
Familiarity with polymers, both thermoplastic and thermosetting.
Familiarity with low carbon alloy steels and high strength aluminium.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Self-motivation, initiative and drive.
Good time management.
Team working ability, both as leader and member.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Additional desirable experience includes:
Knowledge and experience of 2D and 3D CAD, preferably AutoDesk.
Knowledge of European and International Design Codes.
Understanding and appreciation of other cultures.
Experience of other industries.
ERP software familiarity.
