Software & Automation Manager

Technique Recruitment Solutions are a specialist Engineering & Manufacturing recruitment specialist working closely with our Norwich based client who are seeking a Software & Automation Manager  to join their growing team

Main purpose of post:
This key leadership role is responsible for defining, managing and co-ordinating resources and processes to bring together sub-systems and software applications to function together as a complete system – satisfying specification, lead-time and budget requirements. The successful candidate will be a seasoned people manager with notable experience in Project Management.

Tasks and responsibilities:
The key objectives of the appointment are to:-
1) Provide leadership and guidance technically, commercially and managerially for the SI Department and where applicable, other departments. Coach and motivate team members to achieve their optimum performance levels and personal development.
2) Work together with SI team members and those from other departments to plan and execute projects / work activities. Ensure that team members have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction and resources to deliver solutions efficiently and in line with contractual and business requirements.
3) Own and develop local financial budgets, reporting and measures of performance.
4) Manage capacity and day-to-day managerial issues. Track and report capacity / resource consumption, acting as the gateway through which work is assigned to appropriate teams, whilst ensuring that project / the schedule of work is adequately defined.
5) Develop and maintain a Departmental Plan, ensuring compliance and departmental performance therein.
6) Develop knowledge, which is subsequently embedded within the process and knowledge systems to continuously improve and inform decision making.
7) Champion internal process development, identifying and removing waste / non-value added activities.
8) Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Business Assurance Standards in all relevant reporting, documentation, record keeping and procedures.
9) Possess strong and effective inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and personnel.
10) When necessary, undertake specific scalability and portability analysis.
11) Ensure the personal safety and safe working environment of staff.
12) Be a mentor to departmental personnel, ensuring that team members are informed of tailored individual targets and objectives and training needs. Ensure that associated training events are implemented.
13) Attend customer’s sites / business locations whenever required, always upholding the Company’s Culture and Values.
14) Lead excellent working practices, including:

Requirements:

Previous experience in management / leadership experience within a customer centric environment.
Knowledge of PLC & SCADA systems & system development cycle (Including Functional Design Specifications & Test Plans).
Strong leadership & project management skills.
Commercial awareness.
Health and Safety awareness.
Excellent IT skills – including, but not limited to, Word Processing, Spreadsheets & Databases.
Experience within the Automotive, Food & Beverage &/or Water & Waste Industry.
Educated to a minimum of an HNC (or equivalent).
Demonstrable experience in the following areas:
A passion for delivering customer service excellence in a cost effective way.
Strong time management skills & motivation – ability to work using own initiative, to deadlines & constraints.
Ability to communicate effectively in written & verbal formats to internal & external environments.
The capability to excel in idea generation, evaluation, partner engagement, cross-functional technical program management & building / developing an exceptional technical team.
Solid report writing skills.
Positive & enthusiastic attitude to technical challenges, & flexibility to cope effectively with changes to specifications or priorities.
