Supply Chain Manager

Technique Recruitment Solutions are a specialist Engineering & Manufacturing recruitment specialist working closely with our Norwich based client who are a leading manufacturer of bespoke products and systems for the water industry.

Main purpose of post:
To manage and implement Best Practice throughout the Supply Chain process (upstream and downstream).
Primary activities encompass planning; supplier development; cost management, and logistics and inventory management to enable the Company to achieve its goals and objectives – principally to provide exceptional customer service and to maximise efficiency and profitability.

Tasks and responsibilities:

The key objectives of the appointment are to:-
Provide and assume leadership and day-to-day responsibility (encompassing the management and development of people) for Purchasing, Logistics and Stores activities. Central to this is for procured products and services to arrive at the right time at the agreed price, which meets the full requirements of the Company.
Undertake the derivation of Purchasing, Logistics and Inventory Policy and Strategy, which fully complies and satisfies with the Company’s goals and objectives.
Implement Best Practice methodologies, including but not limited to:
a. Risk identification, analysis and management, including assessment of obsolescence (encompassing the Kraljic Purchasing Model).
b. Data management to ensure accurate component, product and contract pricing.
c. Close liaison with suppliers and customers to improve operations and reduce costs.
d. Communication of business needs & objectives to associated personnel in Procurement, Stores and other departments to ensure the efficient working of the Supply Chain.
e. The sharing of Best Practices up and downstream of the Supply Chain.
f. Contract negotiation to reduce costs and achieve maximum efficiency.
g. Development of accurate routing information to ensure that delivery times and locations for incoming and outgoing materials are properly co-ordinated.
h. Accurate calculation of total supply chain costs in relation to existing and proposed new projects.
i. Regular cost comparison and evaluation analysis to maximise sales margins.
Develop and maintain a Departmental Plan, ensuring compliance and departmental performance therein.
Develop knowledge, which is subsequently embedded within the process and knowledge systems to continuously improve and inform decision making.
Champion internal process development, identifying and removing waste / non-value added activities.
Possess strong and effective inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and personnel.
Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Business Assurance Standards in all relevant reporting, documentation, record keeping and procedures.
Ensure the personal safety and safe working environment of staff.
Be a mentor to departmental personnel, ensuring that team members are informed of tailored individual targets and objectives and training needs. Ensure that associated training events are implemented.
Attend any site whenever required, upholding the Company’s Culture and Values.

Person Specification
Extensive knowledge and experience of co-ordinating all of the entities and activities involved in the supply chain, including but not limited to; planning of procurement, inventory control, logistics and distribution.
Extensive experience of supplier and subcontractor price, quality and delivery negotiations.
Knowledge and experience of managing returns and rejections professionally.
Excellent IT skills – including but not limited to, Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Databases. Working knowledge of Sage would be beneficial
Strategic planning.

Educated to a minimum of a HNC (or equivalent) in engineering, science or a Purchasing related award / discipline.
