EEEGR Conference – The future of the energy sector

One of the most important things you can do as a recruitment agency is invest in learning.

This might sound surprising. You might be thinking:

‘Well, what about making calls? Or sales? Or sending CVs?’

We get it – there is also a lot of the above.

The problem is, if you neglect learning about industry advancements and keeping up with the latest news, you quickly find yourself out of your depth. Unable to recognise the top skill requirements. Unable to explain a job role to a candidate.

Ultimately: unable to provide the best service to your clients.

This is why we attended the SNS2025 conference; The annual event held by the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR).

What is the EEEGR and the SNS2025?

The East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) is a membership organisation representing the energy sector and supply chains in the East of England. Their programmes support the sustainable development of the energy sector in the East of England.

The SNS (Southern North Sea) conference brings businesses together to talk about innovation, sustainability and the future of the sector. They even had a robot handing out flyers with extra information – how efficient!

What We Learnt: The Road to Renewables

One of the core takeaways from this conference was the accelerated shift towards sustainable and renewable energy production.

East Anglia is becoming a central hub for energy production.

With its prime location for offshore wind farms, the region already produces 60% of the UK’s wind power.

As development continues, East Anglia is becoming a key energy producer in the UK, playing a role in nuclear, hydrogen, carbon capture, and solar power projects.

Shining a Spotlight on Sizewell C

One upcoming project that stood out to us was the proposal for Sizewell C; a new nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast.

Producing power for 6 million homes, Sizewell C is expected to generate:

  • Around 2,600 construction jobs in Suffolk.
  • 1,500 apprenticeships, many of which are focused on improving gender diversity and supporting STEM pathways.
  • Growth in healthcare and education roles, including training placements in emergency medicine, occupational health, and mentoring in local schools.
  • Roles in rail infrastructure and housing development, due to upgrades to transport links and the creation of accommodation campuses.

What This Means for Recruitment in the Energy and Renewables Sector:

Attending SNS2025 means we can ensure our recruitment techniques are future proof. This means:

  • Encouraging reskilling and upskilling are more important now than ever as sectors, particularly the energy sector, are undergoing big transformations.
  • We need to identify cross sector talent and focus transferable skills among candidates.
  • Investing in the future generation of workers is key to avoid future staff shortages and maintain productivity in the energy sector.

Hearing directly from the businesses shaping the future of energy helped us understand where the industry’s heading, and how we can be a part of it.

Whether that’s helping clients plan for long-term growth or guiding candidates towards exciting careers in sectors like renewables, it all starts with knowing what the future holds.

We left the conference feeling energised (no pun intended) and better informed to provide the best service to our clients.
